How to Live With Atom.

The following is a cartoon which was printed in a special section of The Washington Post on August 3, 1947—three days before the second anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima—devoted to the issue of nuclear weapons. As an historical artifact, I think it does a good job of indicating the ways in which many of the future concerns about nuclear weapons had already formed at such an early period. Though the United States would maintain a nuclear monopoly for two more years, the concerns about nuclear strategy, proliferation, secrecy, and international regulation were present in pretty much the same forms that they would remain throughout the length of the Cold War.
